October Beaches

When I’m zoning out or trying to fall asleep, sometimes I like to dial the calendar back in my head, trying to remember what I was doing one month ago, one year ago, etc. Memory is a funny thing. I can hardly remember anything from Rosetta Stone: Hebrew, but I could tell you what I ate for dinner 14 months ago.

Playing this game on the bus ride home from two great days in Tel Aviv, I was surprised to discover that I’ve been on the beach each of the past three Octobers:

Granted, this is the first year we could actually swim in October. Yet I found it kind of moving to discover that this beach jaunt fit into some kind of pattern in my life! Maybe this year is not such a quirky outlier, after all.
